Momentum overrides fundamentals in CO2 market

Next year, 2008, marks the first year of phase two of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (EU ETS), a watershed moment in the history of European carbon trading. With eight months of the current phase left, there has been some reflection by all players in the market regarding the successes, failures and lessons of the five-year-old carbon-trading experiment.

A recurring theme at Point Carbon's Market Insights 2007 conference in Copenhagen in March was the principle success of phase one: survival.
