Market coupling in Europe

The European power market coupling project, an initiative to integrate transmission allocation and power trading across borders, took several solid steps forward in 2011 on its journey towards the European Council’s ‘target model’ of a single electricity market with one price for power.

This year sees the next concrete phase with the north western European (NWE) project coming on line, providing the largest market coupling yet connecting the Nordic region to the existing central western European
