RGGI lawsuit settled

A challenge to the legality of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) has been settled, according to a statement from the New York State organisations involved.

Indeck Energy, a New York-based power generator, announced its intention to sue the state in January 2009 over the legality of RGGI, a 10-state cap and trade agreement that aims to reduce power sector carbon dioxide emissions by 10% by 2018. Indeck said the programme discriminated against generators bound by long-term agreements.
