Exclusive – Gore calls for 2010 climate change treaty

Former US vice-president, Al Gore, today called for a new climate change treaty, which would bring the US and China on board, to come into force at the start of 2010

Speaking at Point Carbon’s global emissions congress in Copenhagen, Gore said he believes waiting until the current Kyoto treaty expires in 2012 before negotiating a new treaty, could have dire environmental consequences. A 2010 treaty would also give the US and China, which haven’t ratified Kyoto, the chance to come on board with new environmental legislation earlier.
