Montreal Climate Exchange open for business

Montreal Climate Exchange (MCeX), the first market for environmental products in Canada, has launched today.

MCeX is a joint venture between derivatives bourse Montreal Exchange (MX) and the Chicago Climate Exchange. Canadian federal environmental minister John Baird and Quebec Premier Jean Charest were among those who attended the opening.

The launch is a culmination of almost three years of preparation, after an initial agreement between the exchanges was reached in December 2005. Speaking at the time
