Struggling for growth

All three Canadian energy exchanges – NGX, Watt-Ex and NetThruPut – are finding it slow-going with their expansion plans. Meanwhile the rivalry between NGX and Watt-Ex is growing. Joe Marsh reports

Calgary is gearing up for July’s annual Stampede – a 10-day event that includes the Stampede Rodeo. Contestants compete in events such as horse rodeo, bull riding and steer wrestling for the $50,000 top prize. Meanwhile, a lower-profile contest is unfolding, but one with rather more at stake financially: the battle for trading volumes among the city’s energy exchanges.
