Market watchers were hoping that the softer approach from China’s regulators towards tech giants would provide a boost for the country’s equities market. Instead, the market felt the full force of the country’s zero-Covid policy and rolling lockdowns, which also caused the value of non-tech stocks to plummet. Meanwhile, events across the world left investors with nowhere to hide as – for the first time in 40 years – stocks and bonds in the US headed south for two successive quarters.
