The world is about to change for derivatives dealers. A new package of liquidity, leverage and capital measures was finalised by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision last month, while the European Union (EU) will confirm its rules for over-the-counter derivatives early this year. Like the US Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which passed into law last July, it will require a large portion of the OTC derivatives market to be cleared through central counterparties
