Clearing was one of the most talked about subjects in financial markets in 2009. With regulators in the US and Europe putting pressure on banks to push over-the-counter derivatives trades through central counterparties, a number of exchanges and clearing groups rushed to develop offerings.

By the start of last year, four exchanges were vying to launch clearing services for credit default swaps
