The past year has been a big test for structured products providers. Rising interest rates and volatility arising from the correction in global stock markets during the second quarter - when Japan's Nikkei 225 index, for example, fell by 16% between May 1 and June 13 - drove product providers to intensify their search for yield and innovation. At the same time, equity-linked notes (ELNs) with worst-of options had become highly commoditised and investors started to look for new structures
