James Lin's arrival at Taishin Financial Holding Company 18 months ago marked a radical shift in the group's risk-management philosophy. The chief risk officer, armed with an MBA from the University of Washington and 24 years of experience at US banks, acted quickly to modernise the group's risk-management operations by integrating credit, market and operational risk management into an independent unit that reports directly to top management.
