One of the longest standing players in the oil derivatives market, with more than 15 years of experience, Société Générale (SG) excelled in 2003, trading more than 10 million barrels per day (b/d) in crude swaps and 10 million b/d in crude options.

Despite this, the company did not feature in our 2004 rankings, a fact it attributes to the regulation of its commercial bank status. “We have never been involved in the physical or cash markets like some of our US investment bank competition”
