Life expectancy over-estimated


An analysis of differing mortality experience across varying occupational groups by the Self Administered Pension Scheme Survey (SAPSS) working group of the Continuous Mortality Survey (CMS) has found that the PMA 92 tables used by pension actuaries to underpin longevity predictions have underestimated mortality.

Set up in 2004, SAPSS uses the data of large schemes - typically those which have several hundred pensioner deaths a year - to refine mortality projections as part of the ongoing CMS
