Asian assets decouple

As the so-called ‘Asian Miracle’ took hold some 30 years ago, the success of dealers depended largely on how well they catered to the needs of large US and European institutional investors as they sought access to fast-growing Asian markets. Once Asia’s economies had grown in size and stature by the 1990s, the dynamics changed, with dealers also needing to cater to cash-rich Asian asset owners investing into developed markets.
