US energy companies are set to receive greater scrutiny of their compliance with power grid reliability standards following the August 14 US blackout. US energy regulator the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) wants to replace the industry’s traditional voluntary approach to grid reliability with a mandatory one.
