When Joe Sommer is asked for the goal—the hard number—that he and his staff set for reducing the number of exceptions or broken trades within UBS Investment Bank, he thinks of rabbits.

"Like the rabbit that keeps jumping half the distance to the hole, we want to get as close to zero as possible," says Sommer, executive director of client connectivity and electronic trading for UBS Investment Bank. "We also want to help our clients to get as close to zero as possible."
