US tariffs cast shadow over banks’ shipping exposures

BNP Paribas’s exposures to the shipping sector reached €20 billion ($22.8 billion) at the end of 2024, the largest portfolio among major European banks, according to the latest available disclosure before US president Donald Trump’s tariff announcement sent a shockwave through global trade routes.
