US banks record spike in trading loss-making days in Q4

UBS Americas and Stifel lead banks in worst trading quarter of 2024

US banks recorded more trading loss days than profit days in the fourth quarter of 2024, marking the worst quarter of the year by that measure.

Across 34 banks analysed by Risk Quantum, the average number of days with net trading losses was 31.62, up from 27.9 in the previous quarter. By contrast, profit-making days averaged 31.59, down from 36.4.
