US exchanges dominate ETD volumes

North American exchanges continued their dominance of the foreign exchange and interest rate exchange-traded derivatives (ETDs) market at the end of 2017, accounting for 62.3% of all futures trading volume and a massive 85.6% of options trading volume in December.

This continues a trend dating back to mid-2013 whereby North American exchanges have gobbled up an increasing share of trading volumes at the expense of bourses based in Europe.
