NYSE courts Asian firms

NEW YORK –American stock exchanges are experiencing a low volume of initial public offerings from foreign companies because of the regulatory impact of Sarbanes-Oxley and the lack of uniform accounting standards, says John Thain, CEO of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Speaking in mid-October, Thain said Sarbanes-Oxley, lack of accounting standards convergence, the high litigation environment in the US and the strengthening euro market have led to the slowing flow of new listings from international companies.

A lack of accounting convergence has forced international companies to report in US Gaap for their American investors and International Financial Reporting
