US and UK regulators unite to address energy futures

Regulators on both sides of the Atlantic aim to improve cross-border supervision

LONDON & WASHINGTON, DC - Amid ever-rising oil prices and growing scrutiny on the role of energy market speculation, the UK and US authorities have pledged to get tough on the regulation of oil markets.

Adair Turner, chairman of the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA) and Gary Gensler, chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), announced on August 20 that they have taken steps to strengthen cross-border supervision of the energy futures markets.
