Sarbox Stunts IT Investment

A report from the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) says that the imposition of Sarbox on major public companies has led to the cancellation of IT projects as businesses shift resources toward meeting the new compliance standards. The report states that 39 percent of respondents to its survey had "deferred or cancelled IT investments" as a result of the costs associated with Sarbox.

The legislation was signed into US law following the high-profile accounting scandals at WorldCom and Enron
