Tokyo Stock Exchange Systems Crash Halts Trading For Two Hours

TRADING was halted on the Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) for two hours last month after a computer systems failure.

"The primary system went down and the backup system failed immediately thereafter. It was down all morning," says one source in Tokyo.

The trading suspension occurred between 9:00 am and 11:00 am on August 1. "There was a failure in the program that calculates reference prices that are used exclusively for the exchange's supervisory purposes," says a spokesperson for the exchange.
