Mercer Oliver Wyman hires senior director for Italian office

Mercer Oliver Wyman, the New York-based financial services consultancy, has appointed a senior director for its 20-person Italy Office.

Rainer Masera, currently a professor at the Guido Carli Social Studies University in Rome (LUISS), will join the Milan-based office. He will report to Claudio Scardovi, managing director for Italy.

Masera has worked for regulatory bodies – including the Bank for International Settlements in Basel and the Italian Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning - as well as in management for Italian Bank, Gruppo San Paolo IMI.

Masera will, however, continue his duties at the LUISS. He commented: "Joining Mercer Oliver Wyman gives me an opportunity to contribute strategically to the evolution of the Italian banking system, especially in light of new banking and insurance regulations - Basel II, the Financial Conglomerates Directive, Solvency II - and the move towards IASB regulations."
