Fixed income fears Big Brother crackdown

New York -- The regulatory crackdown on biased sell-side equity research has persuaded research analysts in banks' fixed-income divisions that the regulators' searchlight will eventually fall on them.

One of the issues under examination is whether a bank's bond traders or investment bankers are able to see research reports in advance of publication, giving the bank the opportunity to position its trading book ahead of its clients. Another issue is whether bankers or traders have influence over the content or timing of research and the compensation of research analysts.
