Coso: SOX aid for smaller companies

NEW YORK – The Committee of Sponsoring Organisations of the Treadway Commission (Coso) has released guidance for the implementation of internal controls over financial reporting by smaller public companies.

The Coso guidance comes three months after the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) rejected a key recommendation of the advisory committee on smaller public companies. That recommendation called for Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) relief for smaller public companies (those with less than $787 million in market capitalisation).

The advisory committee contended that the SOX Act Section 404 posed special
