Two fund managers behind the surge in ETF options

Options on exchange-traded funds are becoming a core tool for US mutual funds and ETFs, with notionals being almost on par with those of equity index options.

The shift is being driven by a duo of specialist issuers. Innovator Capital Management – which recently agreed to be acquired by Goldman Sachs Asset Management – and First Trust together account for roughly two-thirds of ETF options notional
