A clear answer to credit problems

US firm PA Consulting is working with a number of major US energy companies to set up a one-off trade netting scheme. Kevin Foster investigates the proposals

Many in the energy sector have tipped over-the-counter clearing as a potentialsolution to the industry’s credit problems. Until now, energy exchangeshave led the way in offering such services, but an initiative from global firmPA Consulting aims to give companies an off-exchange netting option.

Peter Stockman, a member of the financial services practice at PA Consultingin New York, says: “The good news for those concerned about counterpartycredit risk is that OTC clearing is taking off.”
