Bursa Malaysia appoints new chief regulatory officer

Bursa Malaysia promoted Devanesan Evanson to chief regulatory officer on August 1, replacing Md Nor Ahmad, who retired after 23 years at the exchange.

Evanson, who reports to chief executive Yusli Mohamed Yussof, will be responsible for administering regulatory requirements for the Bursa Malaysia Group.

Evanson joined the exchange in 1992 as an internal auditor, and was promoted to head of group internal and risk management in 2004. He was later made deputy chief risk officer in September 2005.

Bursa Malaysia was formerly called the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE), but was renamed after its public listing on January 5, 2004. After the listing, the KLSE’s securities exchange business was transferred to a new wholly owned subsidiary, Bursa Securities, and Bursa Malaysia became an exchange holding company.
