Dutch regulator to voice concerns next month

Dutch financial regulator, Autoriteit Financiële Markten (AFM), will release the findings of its study into the structured retail products market next month. “There are both reasons to be enthusiastic about the Dutch market and … there reasons to worry about this market,” according to preliminary findings.

The regulator says it is concerned “about structured retail products for their potential to strongly increase information asymmetries (e.g. consumer perception of a structured product can easily be influenced / manipulated; the quality of the product is difficult to assess by consumers; and total cost of the product is difficult to assess)."
