SIAC Says SFTI Passed Blackout Test

NEW YORK - Officials of the Securities Industry Automation Corp. (SIAC) report that its Secure Financial Transaction Infrastructure (SFTI) network in greater New York went uninterrupted during the August 14 blackout that hit North America.

SIAC representatives spoke at the Securities Industry Association (SIA) conference on business continuity planning (BCP) last week, stressing that communication is perhaps the most important facet of BCP.

SFTI consists of redundant fiber loops routed among SIAC data centers and eight access centers in New York, Chicago and Boston. Customers send lines to the access centers rather than the SIAC centers.

"SFTI performed flawlessly," says Peter Rust, president and CEO of Con Edison Communications
