Pensions advised to switch tactics

Consultancy firm Watson Wyatt is advising pension fund clients to move into high yield and emerging market debt and to use hedge fund-type strategies.

Roger Urwin, global head of the investment practice at Watson Wyatt, says: “We recognise that this represents a major policy shift for most funds and may require a significant increase in governance, but lower risk should be the result without giving up much return.”

The recommendation has been prompted by the gathering pace of the global pensions
