Upgrading the index

As part of the Lehman Brothers Global Family of Indices, the US Aggregate Bond Index, which includes indices for government and corporate bonds, asset-backed securities and mortgage-backed securities, has garnered industry-wide acceptance among bond fund managers as a means to judge the performance of their own portfolios. But for the second time in less than a year, Lehman Brothers is planning to make fundamental changes to the index.

The first change, which occurred this past October, entailed
