Icap looks to buy First Broker Securities

Icap, the world's largest inter-dealer broker, is in discussions to buy First Broker Securities, the New York-based interdealer broker specialising in US-denominated corporate debt and high-yield bonds, according to an Icap spokesman.

First Broker was established as a private company in 1991 and employs 100 people. One broker, who wished to remain anonymous, told RiskNews that First Broker would be an ideal complement to Icap's growing credit derivatives business.

The Icap spokesman said he was unable to provide a timeframe for the deal's completion, as the talks are still subject to due diligence.
