Isda AGM: Industry associations publish principles for retail structured products

Five leading trade associations released a draft set of principles governing structured products for retail investors at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association’s annual general meeting in Boston yesterday.

The non-binding principles focus on the relationship between product providers and distributors, often private banks, and detail the regulatory obligations of both parties as well as distributor, provider and product suitability.

Isda, the European Securitisation Forum, the International Capital Market Association, the London Investment Bankers Association and the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association all collaborated on the document, which is designed to be applied globally. Comments on the proposals are sought before May 30.
