Pension funds diversify

Pension funds are turning to hedge funds to increase returns in the long term, and this trend is set to continue, according to Watson Wyatt’s annual investment review, published last month. The Washington DC-based actuarial consultancy examined the management practices of 42 multinational companies in 12 countries, which were responsible for 1,877 international pension plans with total assets of $488 billion as of December 31, 2001.
