New equity derivatives definitions imminent

The new Isda equity derivatives definitions will finally be launched in May, and will facilitate a higher proportion of electronic confirmations, as well as reduce counterparty disputes. But why has it taken so long? By Peter Madigan

The International Swaps and Derivatives Association is expected to publish its long-awaited new equity derivatives definitions on May 31. It has been a massive project – the new documentation will have taken 17 months of work and involved consultation with more than 60 dealers and buy-side firms in Europe, the Americas and Asia.

The end result will be a marked departure from the existing 2002 documentation – the definitions will be broadened to include a wider range of products, making it easier
