Business is good for many Scandinavian funds, but a former Danish prime minister is taking the German line

European hedge funds may have felt that they had got off the regulatory hook when the recent meeting of G8 finance ministers rejected German proposals to subject the industry to greater official scrutiny in favour of a form of self-enforced counterparty diligence.

Those concerned that the industry would become burdened with extra reporting requirements would have been relieved by the non-commital statement that was issued at Essen, and hoped that would be the end of it.
