Roles of depositaries and custodians in a Ucits hedge fund framework

In the May issue we reported the results of a recent EDHEC-Risk Institute survey on structuring hedge fund strategies as Ucits.


he survey1 was carried out as part of the CACEIS research chair at EDHEC-Risk Institute on non-financial risks in investment funds. In this month’s article, we look more closely at the roles of depositaries and custodians within this Ucits hedge fund framework.

In response to our survey, managers and distributors of funds assert in the main (70%) that the definition and the role of the depositary are appropriate, with 30% disagreeing. This contrasts sharply with depositaries and custodians. An
