The last four months have been hard for hedge funds trading commodities. These funds rely on identifying trends in commodities markets, and recently there have been precious few. The energy markets have experienced rapid trend reversals, and long-term trends in smaller markets , for example grain, are reversing too. But demand among hedge funds for commodities derives from longer-term preferences. The decline of global macro has decreased involvement in the energy sectors which they dominated
