Output floor to drive Basel III capital increase at EU banks

The Basel III output floor will pump up the capital requirements of European Union banks the most of all the rule changes brought in by the reforms, the bloc’s watchdog has found.

Data from the latest Basel III monitoring exercise produced by the European Banking Authority (EBA) shows that around 40% of the total increase to minimum required Tier 1 capital (MRC) expected following implementation of the new framework would result from the output floor.
