Travelers' capital hits three-year high

US insurance giant Travelers posted a $326 million (2%) increase in statutory capital through 2018 to $20.8 billion, its highest level since the third quarter of 2015. 

The climb was supported by modest asset growth year-on-year of $750 million (1%) as well as lower deductions from shareholders’ equity, from which statutory capital is derived. 

End-2018 deductions totaled $2.1 billion, down $1.2 billion (35%) on end-2017.
