Corporate governance in Asia improving – ACGA

SINGAPORE – US corporate collapses such as Enron and WorldCom have marked a turning point in Asian company attitudes towards corporate governance, according to Jamie Allen, secretary general of the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA), speaking in Singapore in mid-September.

Allen stated that after some initial gloating over the US corporate collapses, Asian corporate managers started to assess their own company’s governance. However he stressed that a decline in corporate governance (CG) does not necessarily mean less effort on the part of the regulators.
