Regulation is not necessarily the solution for minimising these risks. Any regulation increases costs and reduces flexibility, and will tend to prevent optimisation of risk/reward preferences. In contrast, the voluntary solution proposed below allows funds to reduce these risks by giving more transparency, at relatively low incremental cost and with minimal operational interference.

The cornerstone of the proposal is a voluntarily published ‘trading statement’ defining the fund’s trading strategy
