Approaching Mifid II deadline adds urgency to Giancarlo’s overhaul of Sef rules

New European trading rules due to take effect in January 2018 add urgency to an overhaul of the cross-border aspects of US regulation by recently appointed Commodity Futures Trading Commission chairman Christopher Giancarlo, market participants say.

Giancarlo has been vocal in public speeches – and in his 2015 white paper on swap execution facility (Sef) rules – about the CFTC’s “flawed implementation” of Dodd-Frank Act swaps provisions.
