Hedge funds get clear rules

For Paolo di Montorio Veronese, chief marketing officer at Dublin-based Europlus Alternative Investments, the new laws have opened the door for his firm the alternative investment arm of Unicredito Italian Bank to incorporate hedge funds in Italy. He points out that "this is the first time a European jurisdiction has set up a dedicated rule book for hedge funds."

Regulations, issued by the Bank of Italy in September 1999, paved the way for two types of hedge funds to be established
