EU officials act on post-Enron policy issues

European Union (EU) finance ministers and central bankers ordered a review on Saturday of the supervisory issues for derivatives trading and the preparation of financial data to try to avoid any Enron-like collapses in Europe.

Ministers met in Spain with a group of company law experts, chaired by professor Jaap Winter, legal adviser to Unilever. The group, which was set up in September 2001 and had been working to complete a report on corporate governance for completion by July, was asked to extend its mandate and given two more months to look at the additional issues.
