Cairn Energy appoints head of Indian business

Cairn Energy has appointed Rahul Dhir to be chief executive officer of its new Indian business, which Cairn aims to list on the Bombay Stock Exchange through an IPO in the last quarter of 2006 or early 2007, subject to market conditions.

Dhir joins from Merrill Lynch, where he is currently co-head of energy and power investment banking. Chief executive Sir Bill Gammell welcomed the appointment, saying that he believed the hire would facilitate an early listing in Bombay:
