Commission appoints new head of internal market

Jorgen Holmquist has been appointed to head up the European Commission's internal market directorate, which is in charge of the Solvency II project. He replaces Alexander Schaub, who served in the post from September 2002 until he retired at the start of July. Since July, Thierry Stoll, a Luxembourgian, has been acting director-general.

Holmquist, who is a Swedish national, has served in the Commission since 1997, first as a director in the agriculture department, then as deputy director-general
