Sebi unravels Jane Street’s ‘sinister’ trades

US trading firm barred from Indian securities market after “disregarding” February warnings

When Jane Street sued Millennium Partners in April last year for poaching traders who ran a highly profitable but secret Indian options strategy, it may have seemed like a good idea.

Now, the firm probably wishes it had turned a blind eye.

The lawsuit and surrounding media interest attracted the attention of India’s markets regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), which today
